10 Things You Must Know Before Getting Extensions
There are many things you should know before chosing the right hair stylist for your hair extensions/before getting your hair extensions. Below I have listed a few things to take into consideration.
Dont be afraid to ask a lot of questions. How long they've been doing extensions, where the hair is coming from, if they are certified...
Not everyone out there has the experience or proper education to be doing extensions. I have come across many stylist in the past that work in a salon and are not trained nor certified to be installing any kind of extensions. Make sure they have a certification and are trained to do them.
Going to a salon isnt always "better". Most places want to make money on the hair so they will charge you double. This helps them pay all the overhead, rent etc.. I charge wholesale on all the hair purchased through me. I have little to no overhead which helps me in keeping the costs down and more affordable.
Extensions CAN damage your hair, whoever says, "extensions will not damage at all" is lying to you. It is VERY important to go to all of your follow up appointments, use the proper shampoos, conditioners, and brush when they're attached. If your extensions are left in too long they will start to matt and become one big knot!
Go to someone who offers some kind of guarantee. If for any reason you're not happy be sure that your stylist offers at least one free visit to ensure that you're getting what it is you paid for!
Get everything in writing. It's important that there are no misunderstandings. This way everything is clear and ensures a pleasant experience.
Not all hair is created equal. There are many different types if hair out there being used for extensions. Make sure you're getting 100% human hair. I have experienced "high quality" hair that was very poor quality and lasted only weeks. I noticed actual string that was mixed throughout this so called 100% human hair.
Ask to see before and afters of their work. There are many people out there that like to use other peoples work and claim it as their own!
When you have decided to go ahead with your hair extensions, ask to see the hair before it is put on your head. Feel and examine the hair and if you're not happy with it request that you get a different bundle of hair.
